Mar 11, 2019 · I have a rare opportunity to get a 6L80E -FREE- from a family member doing a swap in their truck. I have a 2006 1500HD(4x4) that I'd like to put it in that has a 4L80E, also with 200K+ miles on it (6 has ~35k). I've done some reading on previous threads and it seems it will be a huge pain to do, if even possible at all.
I seem to be getting conflicting information, as some tell me one is much larger than the other, while others say they are about the same size. One gentleman told me that the 4L60 has a circumference of 55” and is 18” tall and that the 6L80 is 50” around and 18” tall. The main difference being the output shaft is located higher on the 6L80.

This means that to make my trans a 2WD version I'd need the longer output shaft with the VSS ring gear (4WD puts the VSS in the transfer case to take 4LO into account) and the tail housing extension.
